A Subversive’s Guide to Improvisation, The Masterclass

This two-day weekend masterclass focuses on the methodology in David Razowsky’s best-selling book, A Subversive’s Guide to Improvisation, Moving Beyond ‘Yes, And.’ The challenge for most improvisers is trying to stick to “the rules” and believing “Yes, and” is the magic formula for a successful scene. When we say “yes” to every offer, characters meander and never find their footing. In an instant, you travel from a state of fluidity to a mess of frustration and ask yourself, “How did I go wrong?” or “Now what?” This masterclass will provide methods and exercises that free you to connect to your partner and the scene without worrying about the rules.

This masterclass will center on the following:

• Getting focused at the beginning of a scene

• Building strong emotional relationships instead of plot

• Learning how paying attention to your heart and breath leads to strong scenes and surprising dynamics.

This is an intensive. Registration includes all 11 hours of instruction. The class is limited to 16 students.
