Raz in Denver! 3 Days, 4 Masterclasses!

  • What If Theatre 9060 West 6th Avenue Lakewood, CO, 80215 United States (map)

What if I came back to What IF?

Wonder no more. I’m returning to What If Theatre in Denver for a weekend of four masterclasses.

Get in Focus
Friday, April 12, 7 - 9 pm, $70
What are you focused on when you begin a scene? What great offers are you missing because you’re building a story instead of a relationship? Get in Focus will teach you how to use the power of their kinesthetic responses to build strong scenes the moment the scene starts. Recognize how your body tells you where to focus your attention, then build a great connection from there.
Prerequisite: We recommend that you have completed a Level 2/201 class at any improv training center.

Point of View
Saturday, April 13, 10:30 am - 1:30 pm, $70
It’s the bedrock of every relationship. You state your point of view, and your partner says theirs. Sounds easy, right? But how often are scenes derailed because the actors don’t hold onto their points of view or mindlessly add unnecessary details that throw the scene off course? Recognizing, maintaining, and evolving a point of view creates confident and exciting scenes.
Prerequisites: We recommend that you have completed (at minimum) a Level 2 / 201 class at any improv training center.

Stage Dynamics
Saturday, April 13, 2:30 - 5:30 pm, $70
Your awareness of the power of where you are on stage is vital to great scenework. The dynamics between you and your partner are defined not just by your dialogue but by where you are on stage when speaking. Each inch of that stage is there to help you better define your relationships, build tension, and make surprising discoveries. Explore the hidden treasures that lie beneath your feet.
Prerequisite: We recommend that you have completed a Level 2 / 201 class at any improv training center.

“How do I work with THAT?”
Saturday, April 14, 10:30 am to 5:30 pm, $125
Nowadays, there is more stage time than ever, which means more opportunities to perform - sometimes with great partners, sometimes with challenging ones. This in-person masterclass will help you create exciting scenes no matter what anyone tosses at you.

You have choices. Learn what they are.

Learn to work with improvisers who:
* Always go for the joke
* Start a scene at a “10”
* Don’t listen, talk over you, or don’t let you talk
* Make you or themselves crazy, high, drunk, or demented
* Start the scene at an obvious beginning
* Play a racist, sexist, transphobic, or homophobic character
* Mindlessly add plot
* Talk about the activity in a scene
* Start a transaction, negotiation, or teaching scene
* Deny the basic reality of the scene
* Worry about what to say so they don’t say anything

This six-hour masterclass will have a one-hour break for lunch.
Prerequisite: You must have taken a previous workshop with Dave! (Ones this weekend count.)
